Faro and Albufeira
Next we headed for Faro and discovered Albufiera, where we spent half a day. Albufiera was so charming that I cannot attempt to describe it. The fleet was in, colorful, hanging out squids to dry. A late boat came in, apparently with a special catch or a hard luck story. Everybody hauled them up and out of the water. We started shopping, but we didn't buy.
Oh, I forgot: in Sintra, outside the Moorish castle, we bought pictures.
They were reproductions of old engravings of the Palacio da Pena. The
nice thing was that the man who sold them knew all about the palace:
when it was a convent, when it was a fort, when it was surrounded by
forest, and when it was cut back to bare rock for visibility (for seeing
enemies). Well, anyway, in Albufiera we passed up some rooster plates
we should have bought.
