Maui
We went to Hawaii with Craig's parents in 1992. As soon as we got there, I was overcome with a wish to be there for a month, but alas, it would only be a week.
We stayed on the west coast, visited gardens and a plantation in the central part of the island, and drove out to the east coast twice, once to the top of Haleakala and once to the black beach at Hana. On the last night, we went to the wonderful Luau at Old Lahaina.

We visited a garden (left) near the pineapple farm in the interior of the island. There we also saw Io, a distinctively shaped "mountain."
Driving to Hana, we found a waterfall and pool. At Hana: the promised black lava beach.
At the top of the island, we saw the crater of Maui's volcano,
Haleakala.
The luau held at dusk at Old Lahaina Town sounded like a touristy attaction to me at first, but it was wonderful, with a renactment of Hawaii's folkloric origins and a genial cast of a actors and hula dancers. The luau is actually a must-not-miss in Maui.
